Love,…love,….LOVE,  Radiant Orchid

Pantone Color of the year 2014

Are you bold enough to choose Radiant Orchid for your wedding color???….. Be BOLD and do it!!

The description “Radiant” is there for a reason.  This color practically glows!  It’s not purple,..nor is it fushcia.  It’s a mesmerizing, lovely, limpid place in between that keeps you guessing!

This really is the true “Orchid” color.  I think the pic above truly represents what amazing colors nature has provided.

Using this color for your wedding will make a statement.  This color might be tricky if not used in the right way.  I guess I should say,…. either go all the way or be subtle.  I don’t think anything in between would have the effect you would want.  Let’s take a look at some ways to go BOLD.

Looks like fun!

I am always so amazed at all the creative decor ideas that I see everyday.  I’ve seen so many gorgeous ceremony decorations ideas. The Event industry is full of outstanding Event Designers that can turn out some astoundingly amazing Weddings.  Unfortunately, the price tag is out of reach for most of us.  Here I’d like to look at some ways to get the same “Lux Look” as some of the big budget Event Designers on a more manageable scale and of course,…as always, on a realistic budget!

Get your “Martha Stewart” ON!

Ok,…. I must admit,… I love this idea!  Not something you should be hearing from a professional Wedding florist but, these paper flowers are just so dreamy and surreal, most off all totally DIY on a budget!

I’m sure all of you Brides out there have seen these so, it’s super easy to get the “How to’s” for making these yourself.  I think this is best used in an indoor ceremony location.  Notice how the size of the flowers are balanced and taper off at the bottom.  I would love to see photos of your DIY paper flower arch!

~   Drapery   ~

Who doesn’t adore soft, flowing drapes?   Using pre-made drapes or yardage fabric is a perfectly DIY way to add some serious drama to your ceremony.

Here, a simple arch is constructed out of what appears to be White Birth branches.

gorgeous altar!

~ via style me pretty ~

Joining these branches together would be very simple with some twine and maybe a nail or two.  Just make sure that your arch is secured to the ground on four points. This could be easily done with some metal stakes securely attached to bottom of each post with wire.  Please be sure to cover your “Mechanics” (nails and ugly stuff) like a good Florist would!

It’s amazing how such a simple thing like drapes can add such graceful drama!  Seriously, how easy is this?  throw up a curtain rod secured to the closest branches and instant DRAMA.

Love the curtain arch thing.

~ via ~

Fishing line in a heavier gauge would easily hold up a curtain rod.  Also, it would be best to use a lighter weight fabric like a chiffon or even a gauze for a more rustic feel. A fabric with movement and “Drape” would be better than a stiff bodied fabric.  Don’t forget to bring your level and a very tall ladder!

For this application you’ll certainly need a heavier curtain rod but, how stunning is the result?  I am in love with the simple garland applied to the leading edge of the drapery.  Attaching the garland could be done with narrow gauge wire, pins or even your trusty glue gun!

Notice the small floral accents at the top and sides.  If you add the flowers yourself please make sure that they have a water source.  Small “cages” can be purchased at your local craft store that have floral foam to keep the flowers hydrated.  Bring along a spray bottle of water to keep the garland moist until the last minute.

Here is an adorable arch that I made for a little photo shoot at our local park.  I wanted to use some ribbons in a way that still looked elegant while feeling fun and casual.  I think it turned out super cute but,  anything would look good with a model as gorgeous as Karissa.  Believe it or not, I got everything to make the structure at Home Depot!

Looks like fun!

Just about anything could be used at the upper corners to get the same effect as my fresh arrangements.  I think large bunches of Baby’s Breath would really be sweet with lace ribbons or even some lace fabric gathered up and draped between the poles,…. The possibilities are endless!

I keep several buckets handy with a piece of pvc conduit (Ask a sales person) sunk into plaster of paris for stuff like this.  Those perfectly, rustic looking poles are for sale just the way you see them and they conveniently fit inside the pvc conduit that was already in the bucket,… lucky me since I didn’t measure first!  I covered the buckets with burlap sacks that I also bought at Home Depot, all in the garden dept.  Look for a video tutorial on this project coming soon!

I hope you’ve found some helpful ideas here.  Check back again for more ways to get the gorgeous Wedding you really want on a realistic budget.

Sooo,… I must admit,…. I WAS a tad bit burnt on the whole Mason jar thing ok?  I know,. I know… They are sweet, rustic and totally represent the current movement towards reuse and recycle and what not,… Yes, that’s a good thing but,… That’s all I hear! Every Bride wants Mason jars these days!!!  Now please understand from a floral designers point of view, there isn’t much “Design talent” involved in gathering a bunch of flowers into a jar filled with water (The less “arranged” and more “natural” looking the better, right?).   Now that I got that off my chest,.. Dare I say I’m a total convert now??  How could it be?? I’m tellin ya that I really love, love, LOVE how these mason jars turned out for Amber’s Wedding last weekend at Twin Oaks Gardens in San Marcos (More on the venue later).  See for yourself how flippin cute these are!  (Pardon the “phone pics” but I just couldn’t wait to share :)

A closer look,…. LOVE!!

Sports Roses in Corsages and Bout’s for Prom

This is really cool!

I can incorporate a “Sports Rose” into a Corsage or Boutonniere for Prom.  These Sports Roses are really well made out of the same materials that are traditionally used in the construction of the original sports ball that they represent.  This one even smelled like a softball!  The Sports Roses come in Softball, Baseball, Football and a few other sports.  What a great personalized keepsake.   The possibilities are endless!

Contact me if you’re interested.

I made these for our local Softball “Phenom” that will be playing for the Florida Gators soon! Go Ms “D”!!

How cute is that Football Rose in the boutonniere?

Take a look at the Website to see the other sports that are represented then let me know and I can order it to incorporate

Back from the Holiday craziness!

Let’s do Pinterest Thursday on Friday,…. Why the hey not?

I’ve found more amazing, creative people to follow and I am still totally addicted to Pinterest especially after binging on all the glorious Holiday offerings!

It’s feeling like Fall,…… Especially on Pinterest the past few weeks.  I’m having a hard time letting go of Summer this year, I guess it’s because this is definately a “transitional Summer” for me.  No more taking the boy’s to the beach or Football practice…Boo Hoo!  Too much time in front of the computer for sure!

Well,…. Pinterest IS certainly making it easier to look forward to the Holiday Seasons with all the amazing Pin’s I’ve seen this year from all the wonderful and creative people out there! Here’s a sampling of some of standouts to help you “Transition” into Fall,….. Are you ready?

This is Rustic Fall Perfection!  Love the Bittersweet branches and twigs.  So easy to come up with variations for Fall Wedding decor.  Don’t forget the bright green moss to make the Autumnal tones really stand out.  Chunky candles in oversized hurricane’s are so effective and simple to do.  Different sizes are fine.

I repinned this last week and I’m glad I came across it again.  Lovely color combo and such an artful interpretation on contemporary style that
Martha Stewart has perfected.  via Tre Bella Events.

YES!!!  Thank you, Blue Plate Chicago for this awesome  Moderne Yellow Event Design!  Very sophisticated use of some rustic elements and artful lighting,.. How do the centerpieces look like they’re floating?  I must find out what lighting was used.  It’s hard to match the impact of “Pave” style (mono flower, single color) floral designs especially, for a large event and the Forsythia branches are a dream!  Those chairs are absolutely the perfect touch…. Stunning!

From sophisticated to ultra Rustic,….. Leave it to the Lovely, Uber creative Ladies at Style Me Pretty, to come up with a way to make utility pallets,… Wedding worthy.  Oh yes,….. What else can we do with these pallets?  I can think of ton’s of ways to use them for a Rustin Fall theme.  I’m sure you will come up with something amazing!

Ok,… I just couldn’t resist.  I can’t help but wonder,… Is this what I look like in the morning?…. Or just how I FEEL?…. Hilarious!!!

Lovely,… LOVE! this bouquet from Elisabeth Ann Designs.  The deep burgundy Dahlia’s are a gorgeous contrast with the gray fuzzy Lambs Ear.  I am absolutely enamored with the Cameo and Lace edge that is used in the wrap.  So Victorian in a contemporary way,… inspiring!  You must visit her site to see more!

Isn’t this a great idea for a casual Fall, outdoor Wedding?  So COZY and inviting looking.  Where else but, Style Me Pretty,…Of Course!  Even an outdoor “Lounge” area for a more formal indoor Wedding.  Add a Coffee bar or,… a Hot Cider Bar! This will be the Hit of the Party for sure!  Please make sure the “Bale’s” are covered WELL.  Even an extra layer of padding would be a good idea.  If you’ve ever sat on these then,… You’ll know what I mean… OUCH!

Now THIS is how I want to spend the Autumn Months, Making out in the leaves….. Ahhh.  What a lovely idea for a Wedding Pic!

Source: via Jana on Pinterest

I’m wild about these place settings for a Fall Wedding.  The bright green and deep chocolate brown are such great colors to work with to get a simply elegant look and feel. It’s all about the texture and contrast.  A more budget friendly version could be done with a little less product and maybe more use of chunky candles to fill in.  I’d keep the colors simple in order to emphasize the beautiful china pattern.  Just think of the possibilities in using Pheasant feathers,…. LOVE!!

Source: via Kelli on Pinterest

Here’s a lovely Tranditional style Fall Wedding with just the right amount of “Pumpkin-ness”.  Love the wheat and I’m totally using it in my next Wedding in October!  I wonder who carved the numbers in the sweet little baby pumpkins?  So digging the Grooms suit,… is that corduroy?

Source: via Kelli on Pinterest

This a very unique and creatively styled Fall Wedding.  Notice the striped table covers and the subtle colors.  I’m not so sure I would extend the “Pokey” dried elements as far into the guests personal space for the centerpieces but,… doing so does add some drama,…. and a little DANGER,… which could be fun,…. with the right crowd,…. Just Sayin….!  A very nice take on the Fall Season theme.

Spectacular Fall Ceremony Decor!  Huge constructed trees down the aisle. This is a monumental undertaking one, which li’l ole me could never manage.  It takes a very large staff to install a production of this large scale but,….    something on a smaller scale could be done with a little creativity and craftyness, get out the glue gun girls and then go out and collect some leaves and branches,…. Start gluing!!!

From “Over-the-top”,.. to simple and elegant. Here’s a great way to achieve a fabulous Fall look on a budget.  I probably wouldn’t use the Pinecones as a vase filler, as they won’t really show up enough to be worth the effort.  A water filled tall clear glass cylindar with some clear glass gems would give more depth and sparkle.  Submerge some curly willow or suspend some Autumnal hued single blooms in the water for extra drama.  Everything wonderful about Fall in a budget friendly design!

Okay my Lovelies,… If this doesn’t get you into the mood for Fall then,…. I don’t know what will?  Can’t you just smell the apples?  Are those Apple fritters on that plate?….. Yummy!  The simple sheath of wheat in the urn is just sublimly lovely and the apples tumbling about on the table can be swiped up and nibbled as you like.  LOVE!

Source: via Jen on Pinterest

This is my all time favorite Fall bouquet.  I’m obsessed with the striped ribbon so much that I actually bought some in black & white at the supply store just in case I find a Bride willing to have a Halloween themed Wedding! So fun.  This is done so well, notice the balance of texture with the gray ball thingy’s,.. with the soft Lamb’s Ear against the rough textured Orange Zinnia’s and Spikey thistle’s?…. Just FABULOUS!  A similiar afftect could be had using a soft green Hydrangea in place of the blue and some seed pods in place of the spikey thistle.  The Mokara Orchids are the perfect foible to the pale blush garden roses.  Artful floral Design at its best!

Great rustic setting for Fall.  Such great detail,… in the use of the subtle stripes in the runner to the daring, deep green 70’s glassware.  I had to share this Pin since, I bought my own Mother an Ice Tea set in this same green glassware when I was about 9rs old,.. from the T.G.& Y on Second St…. Check out that flatware too,… LOVE!

I’ll finish off this Fall themed Pinterest Thursday Post with a riot of Fall leaves and a Pumkin lined path that any Autumnal minded Bride would love to walk through on ther way to meet her Betrothed.  Happy Fall Y’all!

See you next Pinteres Thursday! <3

Sweet Karissa at Lindo Lake

I finally decided to try a photo shoot!

fading sky and bouquet

I can’t say that I’m thrilled with the pictures but,….. I AM thrilled with my absolutely ADORABLE model, Miss Karissa!  I can hardly stand how sweet she looks, I tell you!  As it turned out, Karissa had just gotten engaged the week before we took the pictures.  I’ll be sure to post pics of her entire Wedding next Summer.  Congrats my darling little Karissa and her super cute and funny Fiance’, Brett.

My small little Hometown of Lakeside, CA has a great park right smack in the middle and I thought we’d show it off a bit,… Isn’t it pretty?

I guess the pics turned out Okay,….. I’ll try not to be too hard on myself considering this was the first attempt at actually being a photographer AND a Floral Designer. (My Husband took most of the pics but, I’m taking credit,…. Is that wrong?) Wink

I thought I would try a more “Casual” look for this photo shoot since we were in a County park and all but,…. Let’s just say, I’m not usually a “casual” Wedding designer.  I admire all the Floral Designer that make that “thrown together” look,….. Look good!

Lindo bouquet close up

Here’s Karissa’s actual Engagement ring.  Isn’t it gorgeous?  She say’s,… “Brett (Her Fiance’) is such a GIRL,.. he has great taste and likes to go shopping with me”….  Seriously,… isn’t that a GOOD thing?

We should ALL be so lucky!!

Karissa's gorgeous ring

I just adore her great smile!

Sweet Karissa at Lindo Lake

Not too bad for an Amateur photographer……

Too Gorgeous!!

This is my absolute FAV pic!….  This totally shows her sparkling & sweet personality….

Looks like fun!

We actually ran out of light the evening of the shoot so, I finished up shooting the centerpieces the next day in my yard.

aged look

It was fun to use some of my antique books from my Great Grandmother and the aged salt dips are the perfect color.  That book on the bottom is a copy of an “Anderson Fairy Tales”,…. I’m thinkin I should see what it’s worth!

Peach lily"s in a bucket

I loved these little buckets! The touch of lace was extra sweet..

Peach roses in a bucket

Here’s the Bridal bouquet again,……. Pardon all the repeat pics,….. I’m a photo newbie!

More bouquet

Oh yes,….. more burlap & lace my lovelies,…… Can we EVER get enough??

bouquet & Anderson's Fairy Tales

Dahlia”s are such beautiful flowers!  They come in every shade of purple and lavender that you could imagine.  Lily’s have fallen out of favor lately but, I couldn’t resist this particular shade of Peach,…. I don’t think they look “dated” at all,…. Do you?

Dahlia"s & books

Just a few more sweet pics…..

pretty & faded

I was a little obsessed with the sweet sage in this antique purple bottle.  The sage smelled so amazing and the grayish white color is great to add softness and texture.

pretty little things all aglow.

The colors in the bouquet starting to take on the yummy warm colors of the evening sky,….. I more pleased with the pics now that I’m actually sharing them with you and get to have another look at the lovely colors.

I’ll make another go at a photo shoot before the next big Wedding in October.  Hopefully I’ll be more pleased next time round.  Maybe, I’ll go  with a less casual theme,…. How bout a Gatsby-esque, 20’s feel?  Yes,…. that’s it!  I’m sure Karissa will look absolutely “Ducky” in bugle beads and smokey eyes.

Until next time…..
